Youth exhibiting rabbits learn many facts about these animals, and many more facts as they complete their projects. Record keeping is an important aspect of all our animal projects, and a completed record book must be turned in before the show in order for the students to compete. Judges in a meat rabbit show evaluate market-ready animals (usually evaluated individually as single fryers or collectively as a “meat pen” of three rabbits) based on commercial utility, meat yield, and health. A standard American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) meat pen scorecard allocates points across four core factors: meat type, condition of flesh, uniformity, and fur.
Is my child eligible? Any student older than 8 years of age and up, who attends the mandatory meeting and pays entry fee, is a member of a 4H club or FFA chapter, and either lives in or goes to school in Marion County may enter this contest. Be sure you are aware of the Calendar of Events and note all important deadlines, including entry deadline, record book requirements, animal pick up dates, and all other imporant days to remember!
